I'd think they'd be more interested in decreasing the length of unemployment benefits. It helps them knock down that artificial number which represents the level of unemployment in this country. Bizarre, how they try to insinuate that the economy is improving because the official unemployment numbers (U1) are going down, despite the fact that the number doesn't include:

- Those who had to give up looking for new work that matched their previous salary and skillset by taking the best available part-time work, having exhausted savings or other options.
- Those who haven't reported looking for work in the past four weeks for whatever reason.
- Those who took a lesser, but full-time job to get by in the meantime.
- Those who exceeded the maximum period of unemployment benefits, of which there are many.
- Those who left the workforce entirely.
- Those who are being put on continual furlough by their employer.

The unemployment rate decreases automatically, on its own, by virtue of time passing. Although I would imagine the next thing they'd try to selectively exclude from that unemployment figure is anyone with blue eyes. Because people with blue eyes shouldn't be working anyway. Or brown eyes.

Get laid off from a decent paying job with respectable benefits, go take a job at McDonalds or bagging at a grocer, and things are A-Okay.

Does this also mean unemployment benefits will be extended to 99 years instead of 99 weeks?

Realplayer audio sounded about as good in 1997 as it does today, which makes it the consistent industry standard of crappy audio.
